This is my first post so Hello to everyone.
I have had some good results trolling bulldawg type lures deep using dipsys and slide divers. I would now like to refine this as much as possible. I only need to get a max 40 feet down and I would like the option of trolling up to 5 mph. Also, I've had one or two problems with the second rod snagging bottom while playing a fish.
Any recommendations on the best diver to use to get the depths I require and cope with the speed? Also, is there a floating diver that will keep a bulldawg off the bottom while the boat is stationary?
Hope I've explained this clearly!!

Carl

5 miles and hour is FAST there must be a hell of a bend in your rod pulling a dipsy at that speed, i would say the best thing for trying to get a lure down to 40ft and going quite fast would be a downrigger but you would have to use a heavier canonball than standard ones.
You could also try using a Jet Diver Jet 50 that will get down deep but i dont know if it will manage to pull a bulldawg and stay down.

You could always try and bring the rod without the fish on first and then deal with the fish when you are clear.

Thanks. I haven't tried a dipsy at 5mph but am planning ahead for next summer when the pike seem to prefer faster moving lures. I did wonder about the jet divers, I guess i'll have to buy some and try!! One other thing I considered was the smaller diving discs. I know they wont solve the snagging problem but I assume they wouldn't pull back so much at speed but do you think they will get down to 40 feet? Unfortunatley downriggers are not an option as I fly to the lake and theywould pretty much use up all my luggage allowance!!
