For the past wee while i have been playing around trying to make a copy of the Jensen Lax lure, i have tried using resin like the original or hard foam like the Salmo lures, with not a lot of sucess.

But Balsa versions work well so here is a pictorial on the making of the lures, it is about and 8 to 9 day process to make the lures with most of the time spent waiting for the different lacquers to dry before moving on to the next stage.

Through wire and ballast weight

Here are some more pics of the lures at the dipping stage they need about 15 coats of hard plastic lacquer the harden the balsa and give a surface for painting on, them after painting they need 7 days to dry before another 15 coats of the lacquer. The next stage is fitting the diving vanes and tuning the lures.

I took a brown trout version of the Balsa Lax out to loch lomond the other day it looked great in the water and trolled well and the perch loved it

The lures are fantastic. Far better than the professional ones by miles.
