Here is a step by step of a fly that I invented in memory of my Dad who taught me everything I ever needed to know about fishing Alec's Flamethrower
Hook - Silver Salar 5 - 11
Thread - Hot Orange
Rear Body - Silver Holographic
Hackle - Bright Yellow
Wing - Bright Yellow Bucktail and Gold Krystal Flash
Front Body - Black Floss
Hackle - Hot Orange
Wing - Hot Orange Bucktail with Gold Krystal Flash over
Front Hackle - Teal Blue Hackle
Eyes - Jungle Cock
Head - Hot Orange
"This fly is dedicated to my dad Alec Fyfe who sadly passed away in 2007"
Here it is :
Run hot orange thread down shank of hook

Tie in silver holographic and silver oval and form body. Rib with silver oval.

Tie in a large webbed yellow cock hackle. Hackle the body and sweep the hackle back down towards the bend and tie in.

Add yellow bucktail with gold krystal flash over. Tie the wing as a tail.

Tie in black floss and make rear body.

Tie in Hot orange hackle. Hackle the shank and sweep the fibres back and tie down.

Add orange bucktail with gold krystal flash over. Form wing tail slightly longer than yellow bucktail wing.

Tie in bright blue/teal hackle and hackle. Sweep back and tie down.

Form neat head.

Tie in Jungle cock eyes. I like to tie them level with the shank as this gives the a better streamlined effect when wet.

Form the head and add 3 coats varnish. The finished fly.

You can add Pearl lurex to the head on top of the tying thread for effect or why not use black thread and or add lurex.
One thing for sure these do catch fish in all sizes. Best wishes for 2008 and I hope you all have success on this fly.
