Very interesting James, its okuma magda pro's i have at the moment but the clutch sometimes disengages when reeling in.I have felt the action on the cabelas and thought they were a lot smoother than the okumas.

Been using three mid range Okuma bait runners for my shore fishing and sometimes trolling for a couple of years and they have been god as gold.

I used to use the shimano bait runners when i first strated trolling and thought they were terrific, also John Bailey the author of ''casting for gold'' and ''in wild waters'' talked them up in his books. These books at the time were one of the few sources of information on ferox and a lot of anglers followed his advice.Unfortunatly john bailey omitted to say that he had not yet boated a decent fish when he wrote ''in wild waters'' so a lot of the information wrote was actually shite clown .Now i only use multiplier reels and my shimanos lie gathering dust.I still see guys using fixed spool reels when trolling but my preference are multipliers.

You're right, multiplyers are far better suited to trolling. The one advantage of using a bait runner is the double drag setting. i.e the setting on bait runner mode which i use when trolling and then the actual setting on the reel which kicks in when you engage the reel and disenage the bait runner. I quite like that and it's good for a solo troller uing multiple rods as it lessens the panic and bedlam that starts when a strike happens.

None of the line counter reels for me.
Going to buy another couple of abu's ambassadeur 6500cs rockets as I have used them for years with no trouble.
Hoping to add another couple of rods to the boat for next season but not sure what to buy yet.
Hope your reels fine Kevin.

Alex...
