Getting to that time of year again! I mainly fish the sea from rocks during summer holiday visits up to Skye or Gairloch, etc and use heavy freshwater gear with spoons for coleys and mackerel but when winter comes the cod anglers take their turn. If I was going to be casting for cod with bait I would probably be happy with a Shakespeare beachcaster that could throw 4oz-6oz leads and big fixed spool. Shakespeare do stuff very reasonably priced but not bad quality, really.

This is what I would go for because I rarely bait fish so wouldn't spend a fortune on the gear and the Shakespeare stuff I have has been great for the money.
