Have any of you used an electric downrigger? Are they as good as they sound? If any of you have one what unit would you recommend? I have had a look at the Canon 5 & 10?

I have priced the parts for it and it will cost approx £60 for the metal now i just have to find someone who can weld aluminum and i can get started

was out on Lomond yesterday and 1 perch was all i managed for 6 hours. Going from 6 to 2 rods does not help and was knackered at the end, but had a great day.

I have a snipe trailer with my Arran. Recently I have been finding it hard to launch the boat - takes a mighty amount of effort and strenght to push the boat off the trailer. I have tried to get the boat and trailer as far back into the water as possible to float her off. However, the slipway does not seem to go deep enough to get the boat to float off.

Do any of you peeps have a trailer that you would recomend as being a breeze to just push and roll the boat off into the water?

Read with interest a previous post about the 18' Irish boat, had looked at Ireland but only found a Dublin outlet, will have to have another think.

Loch Hope has 16ft Coulam boats, ...

The Orkney Longliner is the boat i have it is one of the old models that has two flat sections at the transom that are ideal for mounting downriggers, i us a 5hp outboard on the boat and have found it ideal it pushes the at along at a top speed of 7mph which is the max speed of a displacment hull of this size.

The boat has been heavily modified with a couple of consols added and storage compartments take all our camping gear when we go away for 2 and 3 day trips.

DIY Boats.....

If you are into DIY and have the skills here is a cracking boat kit, its for a 17ft boat with tons of room inside i reckon it would make a great trolling boat. Take that centre consol out and put two consols up at the front and stick a cuddy on it and you have a boat you could customise to your hearts content

A popular boat on the Scottish lochs it is able to take some serious weather and is a good safe boat. It can be towed by a normal family car and is quite easy to handle for launching and retreving, the only downside is that because it has a displacment hull it will not be a fast boat that will allow you to blast from one end of the loch to another, but it is more that adequate for 95% of the fishing you will do.
