What kind of boat has your friend got? What is the spec of the boat. Then we might be able to give some info on what you might need to start.

Basically a rod, reel, line and a few lures is all you need Very Happy

you'll find everything you need here from James our "Admin"........just clik the link at the end.

start off with rodholders and work your way down to your lures. if you're starting from scratch, you will find plenty of advice here, all you have to do is ask the questions........
good luck!

Welcome to the forum !

What outboard do you have for the boat ?

I just use my 12ft pike rods and baitrunner reels for trolling.

Wellcome to the forum, it would be a good idea to have a trip with someone experienced first
I know if i had done this at the start it would have been very beneficial to me.
James the admin takes trips out trolling on loch Lomond and he is not expensive i would highly recomend you and your friend have a trip with him ,you will learn more in one day than you will with numerous trips on your own
best regards scotty

Getting a day out with James would be a good idea !

I tend to keep things simple and wouldn't try to say I know the best methods. Your pike gear will get you started, don't forget the forceps and unhooking mat, Just get out and give it a go my pal has had a couple of decent Ferox, one was on a Toby, so I'm sure you already own some suitable lures.

Me I've had some great pike trolling trout lures, and my only decent ferox while dead baiting for Pike.

I'm not up on the latest fish finders, don't go for a cheap one, but it doesn't need to be the most expensive. I have a fish easy 320 portable, good to 300ft and gives you an idea about the bottom of the loch, weed, mud or rock etc.
