PostSubject: Electric Downrigger   Fri Apr 24, 2009 11:47 am

I have been considering an electric downrigger for a while now due to a recurrent shoulder injury which is playing up. I find that winding up even 20 feet on my manuel DR gives me severe pain in my shoulder - not good when you then have to try to play a fish!!!!

Have any of you used an electric downrigger? Are they as good as they sound? If any of you have one what unit would you recommend? I have had a look at the Canon 5 & 10?

I had a look at the Cabella site but the postage would be nearly half of the cost of the actual downrigger unit!!!!! Anyone got any idea where I could get one but not have to pay 45% of the total for shipping??????

Cheers

The Cannon Mag 5 would be the best one its the same as the Mag10 but it has a shorter boom.
I think the days of getting cheap stuff from the States are over i have found the shipping costs have doubled in the past 2 years Shocked Shocked and then the icing on the cake is they charge you 22%duty on top of the shipping and goods Shocked Shocked

The shop is out of stock of the Mag 5 i reckon at the current rates they would have to go up to £470ish.........and with the economy going down and the prices going up its not a good mix Sad Sad .

cheers...james

Just an after thought maybe you could try taking the handle off the downrigger and fitting a nut to it and then use a cordless drill on it and that should bring it up ok or try and fit some sort of extension to the handle centre that has a nut head showing and that way you keep the handle but can use the drill if you need to.

I will need to keep an eye out on Ebay for an electric Downrigger. Shame about the economy just now. I doubt if it will get any better in the near future Question Question Question

Anyway I will need to just stick to using the manual DR in the meantime.

I also have plans to put a downrigger board on the stern of my Arran. I am a walking disaster at DIY so I will need to look for one already constructed or find a DIY expert to build one for me.
